The Defiant Ones is a 1958 American drama film produced and directed by Stanley Kramer, and stars Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier as two escaped prisoners, The film was adapted by Harold Jacob Smith from the story by Nedrick Young, originally credited as Nathan E. Douglas. It follows two escaped prisoners, Noah Cullen, an African American man, and John "Joker" Jackson, a white man, who are shackled together and must cooperate to survive while being pursued by a posse. As they navigate through difficult terrain and face various challenges, their initial animosity transforms into mutual respect and friendship.
